How We Met
Any magnificent, modern romance story starts with Hinge, and ours is no different. In the summer of 2020, Joey was living in San Diego and Sarah was living in San Francisco. The two connected over Sarah’s love of gummies and cookies in the freezer, so much so Joey saved her in his phone as “Sarah Frozen Treats.” Joey suggested a Facetime date and to his surprise Sarah accepted.
One week later, Joey decided he needed to pack up and drive the 8 hours up the coast for a coffee date with Sarah. Coffee turned into six-hour talking and swooning session at Hummingbird Park. After 1.5 years of “semi-long distance,” Sarah moved to Willow Glen to shack up with Joey. And just over 1 year after that, we got engaged!
Our Engagement Story
Joey has challenged Sarah to make her 1 hour rendition of the story condensed into 3 paragraphs, so here we go trying to make Sarah’s favorite story into words on a page.
The two drove up to Mendocino on a cloudy Saturday morning for a weekend away. Sarah thought that when this day would come Joey would be sweating like a waterfall, but he kept his cool and there was little suspicion on her part.
The afternoon started out like any, getting ready for dinner while dancing to some music in the B&B. Joey suggested we take some wine to a cliffside and play some games before our dinner reservation out at Cypress Grove. Joey chose a location close to the treeline, Sarah had other ideas. In her usual fashion, grabbed the stuff and moved them further to the edge of cliffside, about 100 yards out. Joey didn’t let this shake him, however he did lose the first card game of 40 pretty quickly. After losing a couple games, Joey asked Sarah if she would like to play another game. He pulled out an envelope from his pocket that read, “Clue 1.” At this point, Sarah started to have some idea, and definitely thought he was about to make her hunt around the town for an engagement ring. Joey opened the envelope and started to read a letter he wrote her and at the end Joey got down on one knee to pop the question. There was a lot of head nodding, shaking, and tears before the word “Yes” escaped Sarah’s lips (which led to Dario winning his first prop bet of the day).
As if there was not already enough excitement, as the two smooched, Joey asked Sarah to turn around to reveal a mob of people peering out from the treeline. Both of our families were out waiting in the wings to hug us. By the time 10 pm rolled around that night, the two of them had never been more puffy in their lives from all of the happy tears shed.
Joey truly thought of everything; from popping Sarah’s favorite champagne to the confetti cannons, he and our families planned the most perfect day. We don’t know anything that can top that, except for maybe our big day coming up.
